Auto Union - race car transporter  “1934 - 1936”

The company Auto Union came together out four other companies from Sächsischen (eastern German ) car companies :

Audi ; DKW ; Horch & Wanderer .

This happend in  1932.

Ferdinand Porsche a genius in car engineering that time ,made it possible that Auto Union had a race car with the motor placed in the middel of the car, that brought them far a head in technic of the time than other car factories had that time.

The race car transporter of Auto Union was build by the company “ Büssing “ in Braunschweig

The name of this company changed many time thrue the period.

Started with “ Büssing “ and changed into :

Büssing - NAG

after that in 1971 into :

MAN

Büssing had also changed there production of motors in 1931 from “benzin-” into “diesel- fuel motors” ! But Auto Union put there decision in 1934 to order a benzin fuel motor . This version had the name “ L300 “. The motor was a 4-liter 6-zylinder with  70 hp bei 2250 U/min.The high speed was 65 km/h.

Auto Union had ordert three of these transporter. Only one is left and this one is standing in the moment in Sinsheim Auto Technik Museum (S-W Germany)

The original color of this truck was “Zement grey” & had the color nummber RAL 3033. RAL scame for  : Reichsausschuß für Lieferbedienungen.

This was also the color scala of Büssing.

The first job the transporter had to do in 1934 was to carry a race car  “Typ A “

The first longer trip startet on the 28.april 1935 . this one startet in Zwickau (Germany east ) and went to Neapel (Italy). That trip took 4 1/2 days. The transporter had two tanks of each 200 liter Benzin fuel .This allowed longer distance without to worry not to find a gas station. The motor needed about 25 liter fuel on 100 km.

These three Auto Union race car transporter  where used from 1934 to 1936.

One of them took a detour over a fire truck. Audi bought this fire engine back in 1997, because they found that the chassis number is the one of there three older race car transporter of 1934 - 1936. This one was build up by Michael Stefan in 1 1/2 years time. He has a company they specialised in building up older Büssing cars & trucks on the old original factory ground. This company has the name “Veteranendienst”.

You can see this transporter also on meetings like Monthl’ery & Nürburgring with the rekord race car V 16 of 1938.
